How Sisters Came to Be…

Sisters Tea Company came into the world as Sisters Gift Shop in 2002. Owner, Connie Young, had dreamed of opening a gift shop specifically for women. While the current the trend in the gift industry was women making fun of women, their bodies and their brains, Connie longed for something better. Connie envisioned a place where women were encouraged to love themselves and their own unique qualities. She wanted a place where pink meant strength and being a woman was a gift. After much soul-searching, a little pink shop was born in Crestwood, Kentucky offering gifts for the spirit, soul, and body. However, the dream did not stop there. Connie was inspired to add something more, but she was not quite sure what the “more” could be. It was during a fateful trip to Destin, Florida that Connie realized that a tea parlor was what she needed to complete her dream.

A flood of memories came rushing to her: Memories of afternoon tea with her grandmother as a very young child. Memories of an earlier dream she shared with her oldest daughter, Lori Crowe, of opening their own tea room in LaGrange, Kentucky. While that tea room never became more than long afternoons of talking and planning, this new vision quickly took root.

In the spring of 2007, Connie moved Sisters Gift Shop to a new location just down the road in Buckner, Kentucky. She asked Lori to join the Sisters’ family and together the mother-daughter team created Sisters Tea Parlor & Boutique. The little pink shop tripled in size and inventory, and two dining rooms and a private party room were added. The updated boutique introduced tea accoutrement as the tea parlor began serving traditional afternoon tea service. As Tea Parlor Co-Founder & Director, Lori poised the tea parlor to become a favorite place for friends and sisters of the heart to reconnect, strengthen bonds, and linger at the tea table.

Under Connie’s watchful eye, Sisters Boutique continued to offer unique gifts for babies, girls and women. And, just as in the beginning, she promised that at Sisters “Every Woman is a Sister, Every Woman has a Sister.” The tea parlor became a beloved retreat for so many in the Kentuckiana area and even beyond those borders. Guests came from hundreds of miles away to enjoy afternoon tea at Sisters Tea Parlor. It was a true escape from the stress of the world where laughter and poor posture was encouraged. Ladies were invited to relax and reconnect with friends and family at the tea table. There was so much laughter, a few tears and lots of love shared within the walls of the tea parlor.

Introducing the new Sisters Tea Company

2020 was an interesting year in the history of Sisters. In February, Connie felt led to change the name of Sisters Tea Parlor & Boutique to Sisters Tea Company. As an on-line store was added, the name change seemed perfect. Little did anyone know at the time, that it was a foreshadowing of what was to come. Just a month later, life would change drastically for the entire world. Beginning in late spring, as strict restrictions on restaurants made operating more and more difficult, keeping the storefront and tea room open became a daunting challenge. As the months passed, it became evident that the boutique and tea room could not endure the restrictions placed on the business and Connie and Lori made the difficult decision to close their doors.

However, their faith in God and His plan, gave them hope that the Sisters' legacy would continue, just on a different path. Now, operating solely as an on-line retailer, Sisters Tea Company is devoted to serving all your luxury tea, tea accessory and tea gift needs. As the ladies were dedicated to serving their guests and customers well in their brick and mortar shop, Connie and Lori are still just as committed to excellence in serving their new on-line customers. Orders are filled within 72 hours and thoughtfully--and beautifully--packaged in tissue and ribbons. Every order includes a keepsake thank you card, discount code for a future order and a complimentary sample of their featured Tea of the Month.

As the former Sisters Tea Parlor & Boutique evoked "oohs and ahhs," the new Sisters Tea Company strives for the same level of excitement and excellence.

"Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who trusts in Him." Psalm 34:8
