Also available in 1 lb. resealable bag.
FLAVOR PROFILE
Kyoto Cherry Rose Green Tea is an excellent tea with wonderful exotic character. The base of this blend is Sencha, a Japanese-style green tea often used in Japanese tea ceremonies to mark events of personal importance. However, we see no reason to wait for a special occasion to enjoy this lovely tea, every day is a milestone worthy of celebration.
This highly regarded tea comes from tea bushes grown in full sunlight with leaves harvested—by hand—from only the first pluck of the tea plant. As its name implies, the green tea leaves are strewn with dried rose petals as a nod to the cherry trees that cover the mountains of Japan and set the countryside ablaze in delicate pinks every spring. Light notes of cherry are added as an homage to the spectacular nature of those gorgeous cherry blossoms.
The overall cup of Kyoto Cherry Rose Green Tea is pleasantly fragrant and light, slightly fruity with a whisper of rose. The infusion itself tends yellowish. As a green tea, Kyoto Cherry Rose contains low levels of caffeine.
BENEFITS
While this tea may sound delicate, the combination of green tea and rose petals pack a powerful punch of disease-fighting antioxidants as both are rich in polyphenols.
Green tea has been shown to improve blood flow and lower cholesterol. A 2013 review of many studies found green tea helped prevent a range of heart-related issues, from high blood pressure to congestive heart failure. Other research shows that drinking green tea is also beneficial for the brain. L-theanine found abundantly in green tea boosts memory and attention.
In addition, rose petals are a great source of vitamins E and C and other compounds believed to help support the immune system to reduce flu-like symptoms like coughing and congestion. Rose petals have been used in traditional medicine to help relieve stomach and digestive problems as well as menstrual cramps and menopausal symptoms and even to alleviate fatigue and improve sleep.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS
Kyoto Cherry Rose Green is excellent served hot or iced and takes well to sugar or other sweeteners. It is not recommended to add milk or lemon to this tea.
PREPARATION
There are a variety of ways to prepare this tea:
Traditional Hot Tea
Measure one heaping teaspoons of tea leaves per one cup water into a tea filter or into an infuser of your choice. Keep in mind, the infuser you choose must be large enough to allow the tea leaves to swell and unfurl. This allows the tea leaves to release their full flavor. Place filter into teapot or mug. Bring filtered or freshly drawn water to a boil then pour into teapot or mug. Infuse 1-2 minutes, for mild flavor, 2-3 minutes for medium body and 3-5 minutes for a bold cup. Remove the filter and discard or remove infuser and discard tea leaves. Garnish as desired with sugar, honey or other sweeteners.
Iced Tea
Measure eight to ten heaping teaspoons of tea leaves into a tea filter and place into a teapot or heat resistant pitcher. Bring 2 cups of filtered or freshly drawn water to a boil. Immediately pour boiled water over filter into teapot or heat-resistant pitcher. Infuse 3-5 minutes. Remove filter and sweeten tea with ½ cup sugar if desired. Add 2 cups of filtered or freshly drawn water to a serving pitcher. Pour in prepared tea and mix well. Add 2 cups ice and stir. Serve immediately or refrigerate.
Cold-infusion Method*
Measure six to eight teaspoons of tea leaves into a tea filter and place inside a clean glass jar or small pitcher. Position filter so that the tea leaves will be submerged and the top hangs over the side of the jar or pitcher so that leaves do not spill out once water is added. Pour four cups of filtered or freshly drawn water over the filter. Cover with lid or plastic wrap. Refrigerate 8-12 hours (or overnight). *Cold-infused tea has higher levels of antioxidants, less tannins and less caffeine. To serve this tea hot, simply pour the cold-infused tea into a saucepan over medium heat and gently warm to desired temperature.
